Happy Monday.
This past week I did something totally new on the long arm quilting machine.
I used a ruler!!
This is really the first time that I have actually use it and was successful with it. So excited. There was a bit of a learning curve and some lines are definitely not perfectly straight, but I was really pleased with how it turned out and what I was able to learn.
I did notice that this method takes a lot of time….and hats off to those who do this all the time!
The quilt is from the IAQ quilt group archives. If you are a member, login here and go to the pattern library.
This was a big step for me, and I’m kind of excited to give it another try on some other quilts.

Disappearing Quilt Blocks
Disappearing quilt blocks are a lot of fun.
They add another twist to the traditional quilt block you start off with a fairly regular block the 4 patch, 9 patch and even the 16 patch.
Depending on what happens next will determine how your disappearing quilt block will end up!
Some have mini blocks in the center, some may look like a complicated paper pieced block, and other layouts.
Add another layer to it when you are placing them in rows for your quilt top and that’s another fun surprise!
.along with some fun quilts you can make using them + a printable to keep track of how to cut what blocks.

{Tips & Tricks}
Have fun! Really, that is the biggest tip I can give.
These kind of blocks will be full of surprises.
Sometimes the fabrics will find their other fabric friend that is identical and you can’t get away from it….it’s ok. Just go with it.
Sometimes the placement will show up a secondary pattern that you never saw the first place! Just go with it.
Also – don’t cut everything exactly. Mix it up even more with crooked lines, or lines that aren’t equal on either side.
There are some suggestions on the posts for making sure you don’t go smaller than a certain size, but have some fun with your cuts! If you are consistent with your cuts from block to block, they will all line up properly and fit together perfectly. That is the key.
