Learn how the Bloc Loc ruler can cut your trimming time way down. It’s super simple and makes squaring up half square triangles easy.
There’s a channel on the back of the ruler which fits on the seam of the HST block, kind of locking it in. The ruler won’t shift and move and makes trimming really accurate as well.
This process is the same, no matter the size of your half square triangles.

Materials Needed:

There is a grove on the back which is where the seam on the back of the half square triangle goes into. You can feel it slide in and you’ll know when it’s right.

Squaring up Half Square Triangles with the Bloc Loc Ruler

Step 1- Line the ruler up and trim the right side and top of the ruler. You’ll need to make sure that the left of the block and the bottom is larger than the size you are trimming to.

Step 2 – Trim the right side of the ruler

Step 3- Trim the top edge of the ruler

Step 4- Rotate the quilt block. If you have a rotating cutting mat, that works really well with squaring up the four sides.

Step 5- Line up the bottom edge and left side of the block to the size you are needing, with the seam in the groove on the back of the block

Step 6- Trim again the right and top edge of the half square triangle block
