What kind of size is the perfect size for a beginner quilt?
When first starting out in your quilting journey, we have a tendency to be a little over zealous and excited and pick the most complicated pattern – and of course think, yup. I can do that!
I totally did that.
What I have found is that if you can keep the quilt to a smaller size when first beginning, you’ll have less of an opportunity to do that.
Patterns that are lap or baby quilts are the perfect size for a beginner quilt.
What kind of designs are perfect for a beginner quilt?
Similar to what was mentioned above, you’ll want to kind of watch the design as well as the size.
If you are keeping to a smaller sized quilt, the pattern tends to be a little less complicated as well.
You’ll want to look out for traditional patchwork style, avoiding a new technique like paper piecing, applique, etc.
Also look at how many fabrics are in the design, how big the pieces are, what is the size of the quilt blocks?
These are things that you can use to keep on track.
In the end, keeping to a simple and super cute beginner quilt is best when starting out.
You’ll be less frustrated and when you finish it you will be more likely to try something else and keep quilting!
