Learn how to sew a simple mug caddy that slips right over your coffee mug and keeps your favorite sewing notions within reach. This little organizer is one of those projects you didn’t know you needed—until you make one and wonder how you ever sewed without it.
If you’re constantly reaching for clips, scissors, or a seam ripper, this mug caddy keeps everything in one spot while you sew. It wraps around your mug with elastic so it stays in place, and the pockets on the sides give you just enough room to hold the basics without taking over your workspace.
It’s also a fun project to customize. You can change the size, adjust the pockets, or use fabric from your stash to make it match your sewing space. It’s quick to sew, practical to use, and makes a great little gift for any quilter or sewing friend.

What to Put in Your Mug Caddy
Once you make your mug caddy, the fun part is deciding what to keep in it. Think of it as your little “grab and go” sewing station—everything you reach for over and over again can live right there next to you.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Fabric clips or pins
- Small scissors or thread snips
- Seam ripper (because… it happens)
- Hand sewing needles
- A small spool of thread
- Marking pen or chalk
- Measuring tape
- Thimble or finger protector
You don’t need to fill every pocket—just add what you use the most. The goal is to keep your essentials within reach so you can stay focused on your sewing instead of getting up every five minutes to find something.
And once you start using it, you’ll probably tweak it a bit. Maybe add another pocket, change the size, or make a second one for a different project. It’s one of those small projects that ends up being surprisingly useful.
