This is one of the easiest heart quilts that I’ve ever made.
I’ve made this heart quilt block in the past – Heart Pillow, but after quite a long time, I made up a bunch of blocks to put together a quilt of hearts.
While I made enough to make a wall hanging, you could make more blocks to make a larger quilt.
Scroll down to watch the video tutorial – walking you through the process of sewing the block together.
It’s a quilt block sewn in an on point manor. It’s pretty simple once you get the hang of it!

Grab your scraps… or your favorite charm pack! I used a charm pack, but really – feel free to dig through your stash and pick out fabrics that all read the same.
For example, I sorted the squares into collections of three. The three squares are all in the same color family. That way the heart stands out.
If you have a super scrappy pile, sorting them into threes would be best.
Finished baby quilt size: 44″ x 40″
Materials needed:
27 – 5″ x 5″ squares (this is for 9 quilt blocks, you’ll need more if you want a larger quilt)
9 – 5″ x 5″ background
18 – 7 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ background – cut these in half once so each square = 2 triangles
1- 3 1/2″ x 39″ background
2 – 3 1/2″ x 41″ background

The fabric that I used was a charm pack from Tilda. It’s the Wildflower fabric line. It’s adorable! I wish I had more squares so I could have made the quilt larger.

Heart Quilt Pattern Instructions-
1- Lay three colored squares with one background out in a four patch pattern

2- Sew the four patch block together

Make sure the background is in the correct location prior to sewing.

3- Take 2 triangles from the large background squares cut in half diagonally and sew to opposite sides of the four patch. You’ll want to make sure the 1/4″ point is hanging off of the four patch edge. Stitch 1/4″ seam along this edge.

Repeat so both sides have a triangle, press well

4- Take another 2 triangles and again, sew to opposite sides of the new unit. Press well.

5- Trim block to 13″ x 13″
Lay the blocks out – 3 rows of 3 heart blocks each row

You can sew all the blocks together in ‘chain sewing’ manor. It really does help make the sewing go quick and you’ll be done with those blocks pretty quickly!
Remember that it’s really only a four patch sewn on point, it’s pretty simple.

Quilting the Heart Baby Quilt
Here’s a look at the quilting that I decided to do for the Heart Baby Quilt. Super simple and nothing fancy over here! I went for an allover quilting design.
A heart that moves around like a meander design. I did think about a swirl flower, but went with the little heart and meader instead.
I used white thread to keep it simple as well – nothing colored. It blended in great and was really quick to machine quilt on the longarm.
Finishing the Quilt
1. Cut or piece together your batting and a piece of quilt backing fabric.
2. Make a quilt sandwich with the backing, batting, and top.
3. Baste together with fusible batting, pins or basting spray.
3. Quilt as desired. A few of my favorite ways to quilt are Straight line quilting or cross hatch quilting. Use a walking foot on your sewing machine. Trim away the extra batting and backing.
4. Cut strips of fabric for the binding. Cut 2 1/2” tall (sometimes I use 2 1/4″) binding strips. Sew the binding strips together and bind using your favorite technique.
