With Valentines coming up I thought it would be fun to have something ‘heartish’ around the house. Thus the tutorial today is the heart quilt block!
Keeping the quilt block simple is what I am all about. This heart is made with some 5″ X 5″ squares, and a larger triangle to set it on point. Really, I am not sure it could get any easier than that!
Finished size: 13″ X 13″
This would make a great project for a charm pack and some fat quarters that you have hanging around. Make sure you have enough contrast between the heart itself and the background. The prints I used were quiet busy, but you could still see what was going on –and that it was a heart.
Going beyond the pink and red is kind of a fun treat too.
Materials needed:
4– 5″ X 5″ squares {3 are for the heart, 1 for the background}
2– 7″ X 7″ squares- cut diagonally to make two triangles
Instruction for piecing:
1) Sew two 5″ X 5″ squares together. Repeat with other 2
2) Sew the sections to make a 4 patch
3) Sew on triangle on each end of the new center section
4) Repeat with other sides and triangles
5) One quilt block down…..how many more to go?
Iron the quilt block really well– and of course the next step is to put it into something finished! Need some ideas so it doesn’t hang around as an orphan quilt block? Check out all the projects that were done last year.
Do you have the perfect fabric for this block? Do you have the perfect finished project to make with it? Share it with the rest of us!
(Fabrics used were a mix and match printed by Andover)
