Mini Quilt Patterns~
One of the things I love about mini quilts is that they’re low-pressure. You can experiment with colors, practice a new quilt block, or finally use those special fabric scraps you’ve been saving. They also make wonderful wall hangings, table toppers, gifts, and seasonal decorations that are easy to swap out throughout the year.

It’s constructed simply using a variety of half square triangles. I’ll even show you my favorite method for making half square triangles (referred to as HST’s).
Sawtooth Star

These stars are called the “sawtooth” stars and have been around since the late 1800’s. They are easy to make but are also great practice at flying geese blocks.
How to Finish Your Mini Quilt
1. Cut or piece together your batting and a piece of quilt backing fabric.
2. Make a quilt sandwich with the backing, batting, and top.
3. Baste together with fusible batting, pins or basting spray.
3. Quilt as desired. A few of my favorite ways to quilt are Straight line quilting or cross hatch quilting. Use a walking foot on your sewing machine. Trim away the extra batting and backing.
4. Cut strips of fabric for the binding. Cut 2 1/2” tall (sometimes I use 2 1/4″) binding strips. Sew the binding strips together and bind using your favorite technique.
Why Make a Mini Quilt?
Mini quilts are perfect for trying something new without investing a lot of time or fabric.
They’re great for:
- Using scraps and leftover fabric
- Practicing new quilting techniques
- Testing a quilt block before making a full quilt
- Decorating your home throughout the seasons
- Making thoughtful handmade gifts
They’re small enough to finish quickly but still give you the satisfaction of completing a quilt.
More Than Just Wall Hangings
While many mini quilts are displayed on a wall, they’re useful in lots of other ways too.
You can use them as:
- Table toppers
- Table centerpieces
- Mug rugs
- Mini table runners
- Shelf decorations
- Seasonal displays
- Small gifts
There are so many ways to enjoy a mini quilt beyond hanging it on the wall.
