I’m so excited to share this fun Halloween ribbon gift bag tutorial with you! I’ve been itching to make something festive and useful, and this project popped up when I was messing around with leftover ribbons and fabric scraps. In just a few simple steps, you’ll have your own spooky-cute gift bag—perfect for treats, small gifts, or just decorating.
Grab your supplies, pick your Halloween prints, and let’s stitch something that’s equal parts adorable and eerie!

This bag is made with 100% ribbon and uses the quilt as you go technique. The Halloween Ribbon Gift Bag is around 7″ tall, just big enough to stuff with some goodies and treats. It’s lined and the ribbon handles are perfect for quick grab and use.

Materials Needed:
- 2 – 8″ X 8″ muslin (I didn’t use muslin in my examples, but the fabric I chose won’t ever show– so keep it simple with muslin)
- 2 – 8″ X 8″ interfacing
- 2 – 8″ X 8″ lining
- various scraps of ribbon
- 2 – 10″ X 2″ ribbon for handles
Creative Variations
Make your Halloween ribbon gift bag truly unique by experimenting with colors, patterns, and embellishments. Try using different ribbon widths for a layered look, mix spooky fabrics like bats, pumpkins, or ghosts, or add decorative trims like lace or pom-poms for extra flair. You can also customize the bag size to hold larger treats or create a mini version for party favors. Play with placement and textures to make each bag one-of-a-kind!

3) Sew the sides of the ribbons in place– this process is similar to a quilt as you go technique.
4) Layer the ribbon and sew, sew, sew until all the interfacing is covered.

5) Trim the squares to 8″ X 8″.

6) Lay right sides together of the squares you just cut.
7) Sew around 3 sides of the squares.
8) Cut from each bottom corner, one 1 1/2″ square.

9) Pull the opening of the corners together and pin in place.

10) Sew across the edge to box the corners.
11) Repeat steps 6-10 with the lining of the bag– leaving a 3″ opening along the bottom for turning later.
12) Pin the handles in place and stitch across the top to secure.

13) With right sides facing, stuff the lining inside of the bag.
14) Sew across the top.
15) Pull right sides out through the opening of the lining and sew the opening closed.
16) Stuff the lining inside the bag.
