I don’t know about you, but I find myself singing that darn song at least once per day! My boys especially think its funny, then obnoxious, then it’s funny again. You can never tell!
What does a fox say?
Yeah, well. To help with the obsession and the fact that all my kids love/hate the song, how about a little applique project.
It’s fairly simple, with only a handful of template to cut and sew. Dig around in your stash and find some cute word fabric. Mine is a bunch of quilt block mumbo jumbo– I’m sure the boys wished I could have found a different print, but I used what I had on hand.
The other colors I chose were based on their quilts {you can find the tutorial here on Moda Bake Shop}.
I put my applique on a pillow, it’s small- travel size, but perfect for evening book reading and hanging out. Not fluffy like a girl.
Feel free to sew it on anything you would like.
Materials Needed:
Fox Templates– Download
Background fabric for the applique
6″ X 6″ word fabric for word bubble
12″ X 12″ fox face- light
12″ X 12″ fox face- red, center of face, ears
2″ x 2″ black- nose
fusible web: heat-n-bond
What Does a Fox Say Free Applique Tutorial:
1) Print off the template
2) Using heat-n-bond follow the instructions…. trace and fuse to the wrong side of the fabric and cut out. Here is a quick applique tutorial to jog your memory.
3) Layer the pieces on your background and fuse in place
4) Using Raw Edge applique method, stitch around the shapes twice. I used black thread- need help? Here’s a tutorial for raw edge applique–
5) Draw eyes with pencil and stitch with machine
6) Finish project you have decided to put the applique on– shirts, pillows, blankets, quilts, you name it.
If you decided to make a pillow– here is a pillow tutorial to help you finish it.
This fox applique would be perfect for shirts or bags or even a quilt.

I never heard the fox song until just now and it is cute and now I have to make the fox appliqué. We have several fox in our neighborhood scaring the dogs and cats and digging holes so I hope I can make this pillow for a few neighbors for Christmas or for just anytime. Thanks love the Applique and I can tolerate the song.
