Just recently I revisited the Posie Quilt Block— and I just knew i had that block somewhere around in the sewing studio. Well, I couldn’t find it, however I did find this posie quilt block tucked away in the ufo quilt block drawer and thought it would make the cutest spring pillow and a super easy pillow pattern.
It is made with 5 yo-yo extra large flowers, appliqued onto the background {how to applique tutorial here} and a fun little 3-d leaf tucked under.
The block is 8 1/2″ square making it really a small pillow, but a great one anyways to make the pillow pattern with.
Materials needed:
8 1/2″ X 8 1/2″ quilt block
1– 8 1/2″ X 8 1/2″ for back
1– 8 1/2″ X 11″ for back
1 pkg of ric rac
Pillow Pattern Instructions:
Step 1) fold each of the back pieces in half, iron
Step 2) Cut ric rac to 9″ and place on the underside of the larger folded edge
Step 3) Sew down the ric rac to the folded edge
Step 4) Cut 4 pieces of ric rac 9″ long
Step 5) Sew each piece to one side of the front of the pillow square {the one edge of ricrac will over lap the side edge. Sew a very scant 1/4″ so the stitching won’t show when you turn the pillow
Step 6) Pin the larger backside piece facing down on the front quilt block
Step 7) Place the smaller folded back piece on top. The folded edge will be in the middle of the pillow
Step 8) Sew all the way around the pillow
Step 9) Stuff firmly
Want to know a secret? I used batting to stuff my pillow! I grabbed a bunch from under my sewing table and folded it until it was about as large as the pillow and then stuffed that folded bundle inside. The result is a little bit firmer of a pillow– not to fluffy and soft, but I really like it. You can still manuever it around to the corners a little bit {or you could stuff some polyfil into those too}
