This week we are going to cut up another couple of quilt blocks to make a scissor keeper! Weeeee. I love pouches and really anything that will keep something sharp safe so it doesn’t poke my hand when I reach to the bottom of a bag.
This little scissor keeper has an extra pouch in the back –so you can stuff it with more notion goodies….and chocolate of course. Double Bonus. The pouch is perfect for medium sized scissors. These measure 5 1/2 inches long.
Scissor Keeper Tutorial
As you can see from the photos the backside of this cute scissor keeper I used an embroidered quilt block!!! Do you have any of those hanging around in your UFO Quilt block stash? I have a few more! You can find this embroidery pattern here– totally cute!
Materials needed:
- 2 UFO quilt blocks around 6 1/2″ square
- lining: 2– 6 1/2″ X 4 1/2″
- pocket: 2– 6 1/2″ X 4 1/2″
- button and loop for the button
1) Cut the quilt blocks to measure 6 1/2″ X 4 1/2″ —the front of the pouch is partially covered by the scissor pocket, so you can use a solid fabric for here instead and save that UFO quilt block for another project {there will be more coming during the year!}
2) Place the pocket fabric pieces- right sides together
3) using the measurements below mark and cut
4) Pin them together {right sides still facing} and sew the top and bottom diagonal sides that you just cut
5) Turn this tube right sides out and iron
6) Place pocket on the right side of the front pouch fabric
7) Sew on the bottom diagonal- the sides will be sewn into the side seam later
8) Sew the loop at the top
9) Pin right sides together the front and back of the pouch
10) Sew around leaving the top open- turn right sides out
11) Lining- place right sides together
12) Sew around leaving a 1 1/2″ opening on the bottom for turning
13) Stuff the outside into the lining – right sides will be facing. Pin
14) Sew around the top edge
15) Turn right sides out and stuff the lining back into the pouch
16) Sew button on the scissor pouch and sew the opening for turning closed
