Round Robin Winter Wonderland Row 5 by ~
A little bit about Heidi-
Hi! I am Heidi Grohs! I am a quilter of 16 years and still learning. Every. Single. Day!!
I am currently enjoying my dream job. Wife to a wonderful husband and staying at home with my four boys (16, 13, 10, and 2) while running my own small home business. You can find me at my blog Buttons and Butterflies (www.buttonsandbutterflies.com
You can also find me doing special projects over at another blog. I have block and quilt project tutorials, including a quilt tutorial, Spiders and Webs (http://www.modabakeshop.com/
After the loss of our daughter in 2009, I digitized her footprints and embroidered them on her quilt. Other mothers that had lost babies became interested to have their babies' prints on their special blankets/quilts. My charity Butterfly Kisses (http://jamiesbutterflykisses.
A year ago, I became a proud owner of a longarm machine! Recently, I have decided to expand my business to longarm quiltilng services. I will be announcing the official opening along with the website on my blog in the very near future!
For this row Heidi has decided to take us down the English Paper Piecing road. She does a wonderful job showing you how, so please don't feel scared to give it a try! I love the idea of making them different sizes to attach to the background piece. This is a great week project to take along car rides and runa rounds {when others are driving of course}
She includes step by step plus the templates to use for the pieces. Perfect! I am trying to decide to go– busy background with snowflakes that pop or simple background with patterned snowflakes. What are you going to do?
What has Heidi been up to lately?
She has been featured on Moda Bake Shop:
Does some crazy cool piecing!
Thanks Heidi for sharing your wonderful talent and pattern for the row!
Hop on over and wave and comment to Heidi–
This pattern is for the Round Robin Winter Wonderland Quilt Along Series. No registration required to sew along. All of the previous rows and schedule of designers can be found here:
Round Robin 5 Winter Wonderland
Photo Gallery~So we can all keep track of what we have sewn, there is a Flickr Photo Gallery set up for the Round Robin. This is a great place to post photos of your progress– from fabric choice to final finish. We want to see it all! {this truly is the only way we can share since we don't live by each other- think of it as our spot for show and tell} I check it often and comment, so please share!
If you'd like a little reminder in your email for the Round Robin Patterns and posts- Sign up for my weekly updates {includes a couple of free patterns right off the bat + anything new that I add. Lucky you!} Remind me of the Round Robin and other Sew Alongs!
Next row will be posted: March 25th- Heidi from Buttons and Butterflys! See you then!

I had never done paper piecing before, I’m not one to do ‘putsy’ projects, but it wasn’t too bad. Doing a smaller project like just the snowflakes, made it easy once I got myself going on it. I don’t know that I’d ever do a whole quilt top with paper piecing, but now I can say that I’ve tried it. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. ha ha.
good for you! it is funner to try a new thing in smaller doses. then you don’t feel overwhelmed and then never finish the project.
