Today’s stories are from Lynn & Minka- (they are both members of the Quilt Group)
Lynn’s backstory-
I started quilting about 10 years ago after my Sister found quilt blocks made by her mother-in-law after she had passed away. They were hand embroidered children’s blocks on blue cotton.
As they were expecting their first granddaughter she asked if I could please make a blanket with them for her. I did and took it to our Sunday School class to show them and one of the ladies exclaimed, Your A Quilter!
I said No, this is just a baby blanket.
Oh No she said. And off I went with her to my first ever quilt guild meeting where we proceeded to join and make the Best life long friends ever!
I have found quilters everywhere to be the nicest, kindest people. They are never to busy to talk, offer help, prayers, and be there for you no matter what.
A little bit about Lynn-
Hi! I am a bumbling along quilter with the absolutely most amazing quilting friends in Middle TN that I could not be prouder of or still be a quilter without! I have been married for almost 40 years and have 3 wonderful Children who have blessed us with 4 amazing grandchildren. We began our lives together in WA state, moved to TN for 7 wonderful years, where I became a quilter, and are now living in Yuma, AZ.
Minka’s Backstory-
I am a very novice quilter. Many years ago my church held a quilting class which I took.
We also had some expert quilters in our congregation. I enjoyed the class and made two lap quilts for my parents. Both of them are now deceased.
I have the quilt I made for my mother in my car to keep my legs warm throughout the long MN winters. My dad eventually got Alzheimer’s and did something with his quilt and we were never able to find it! I hope he took it and gave it away to someone in need.
I hate to think he might have inadvertently thrown it away! I still have the scraps from it I’d like to do something with and I have pictures of me making it so I still know what it looked like.
Back to the present-with a great deal of help I made a full size quilt for my daughter and son-in-law and I’m in the process of making a quilt for my son and his wife. I’ve also made baby quilt/blankets for my six grand children.
I helped my girlfriend make her first lap quilt from squares made from her mother’s house dresses, so she now has a memory quilt. I would like to start making lap quilts again and small quilt projects.
A little bit about Minka-
I’m 59 years young, I have lived in Moorhead, MN for the last 34 years. I work at a local hospital as a patient sitter and have a degree in Community Health.
I have two grown children and six grandchildren. We also have seven honorary grandchildren from having done foster care in the past.
My current hobbies are sewing and card making. I have a Lhasa Apso. She was found lost or abandoned. She is my angel baby!
