Water resistant fabric can be a bit tricky sometimes. Not really sure what to make with it other than a table cloth. During the summer we are going on hikes, riding bikes, camping and doing other outdoor activities…which means you need to bring along a water bottle.
This oil cloth or laminate/waterproof fabric is perfect for making a little heavier duty holder. If it gets a bit sticky with juice it can be quickly wiped off and ready to go again.
The bottom of the bottle has criss cross straps to hold the bottle in place. The clip lets you attach your water bottle holder to camp chairs, bike handles or backpacks. It’s a great grab and go sort of thing.
Materials Needed:
You can find the material used for this project here: Wholeport
2- 4″ X 9″ –1 outside, 1 lining
6- 3/4″ X 6″ — 3 outside, 3 lining
2- 3 /4″ X 3″ — 1 outside, 1 lining
ring and clasp
pinking shears
Water Bottle Holder Instructions:
1) Lay the small strips together- wrong sides facing
2) Sew each long side of the strips
3) Cut the sides with pinking shears- set aside
4) On the wrong side of the lining piece- mark these measurements: from the side on the bottom of the pouch {if your fabric is directional make sure these markings are in the right space or your fabric or the print will be upside down} 1″ and 2 1/4″ from the other side on the bottom- mark again 1″ from the edge and 2 1/2″ from the edge.
5) Place the large pieces together- wrong sides facing
6) Cut along the long edges with the pinking shears
7) Place the first small strip just past the first mark and sew in place
8) Place the second small strip just past the next mark and sew in place
9) Loop the first small strip over and in place at the 3rd mark- sew in place
10 ) Loop the second small strip over and in place at the 3rd mark- sew in place
11) Finish sewing along the bottom edge of the large piece
12) Fold the small 3″ strip in half with the ring tucked in between the fold
13) Slip in between the lining and outside piece
14) Slip the last strip behind the ring loop
15) Sew along the top edge to secure them in place
16) Fold the sides together- right sides facing
17) Sew along the side edge
18) Turn right sides out- if your seam is getting pulled, turn back to the wrong side and stitch down it again. Make sure you reverse stitch at the beginning and end of the seam
19) Slip in water bottle
This size will fit most water bottles, however you might want to check and add a little bit if needed to fit your favorite.

Awesome! I love the way the bottom is made! So much easier than trying to sew a circle to a tube! I’ve got a Craft Gossip post scheduled for later today that links to your tutorial:

Anne- I soooo dislike circle bottoms! This is a lot easier and with the wipeable fabric makes it sewable too! Thanks for sharing the link.
