This super quick Free Bunny Sewing Pattern is great for any occasion, and seriously they are so easy to make. 3 things are needed- fabric, ribbon, polyfil.
A few years ago, I convinced my Eliza to sew up a few bunnies for some cousins.
Sewing with kids isn’t terrible….but it does take the right blend of everything.
This does it…… which just means that if she can do it, you can too!
These bunny softies are perfect for Easter gifts, for your best friend. It’s such a cute bunny, and super simple to sew.
You can make a bunch of Easter bunnies – pile them in a Easter baskets with Easter eggs for some fun decoration.
The beauty of this little bunny plush pattern is that it does not need to be turned inside out when you are done. You are going to lay it out, cut it out and then sew it up – stuffing before finishing closing the hole for stuffing.
There is no large head you have to hand sew. No ear tip that doesn’t push out – because it’s not turned inside out.
You can use little snips to add a little ‘shag’ to the edging or just use pinking shears like we did.
This easy bunny pattern makes good use of your scraps, your leftover quilt blocks, or just some fun different fabrics you have sitting in your stash.

Free Bunny Sewing Pattern Step-by-step Instructions:
Step 1: Fold fabric or quilt block WRONG SIDES TOGETHER
Step 2: Pin pattern pieces, template on the quilt block
Step 3: Cut out using pinking shears – this is so the raw edges won’t ravel when they get used, loved or on display. You aren’t turning these right sides out- so your pinking shears cut line is it.
Step 4: Using your sewing machine, Sew all the way around leaving the bottom open for stuffing. You’ll need to watch that your seam allowance is 1/4 inch
Step 5: Stuff firmly make sure you get little stuffing into those long ears!
Step 6: Sew the opening closed by hand or by machine on the bottom of the body
Step 7: Tie bow around the bunnies neck
Don’t overstuff the bunny. You don’t want a super hard or chubby bunny. It’s fun to have a little floppy.
If you want to add a bunny face – then go right ahead! You can use light pink embroidery floss, or black thread to highlight the eyes, nose whiskers, or highlight the bunny ears.

Fabric Alternatives
Choosing the right fabric for your bunny can change the final look and feel. Here are some great alternatives to try:
- Cotton Fabric – A great all-purpose choice that’s easy to sew and comes in endless prints and colors. Use quilting cotton for a soft but structured bunny.
- Flannel – Adds a cozy, slightly fuzzy texture and makes the bunny feel extra cuddly.
- Fleece or Minky – These plush fabrics create a super soft, huggable bunny, but they can be a little trickier to sew since they stretch.
- Felt – Perfect for a quick, no-fray option. Great for beginners or if you want a more decorative bunny.
- Linen or Muslin – Gives a rustic, handmade look, especially when paired with embroidery or soft pastel colors.
- Upcycled Fabrics – Use fabric from an old shirt, baby clothes, or even scraps from other sewing projects to make a meaningful keepsake bunny.
- Leftover Quilt Blocks – Turn an extra quilt block into a unique patchwork bunny! This is a fun way to use orphan blocks from past quilting projects while adding a creative, scrappy touch.
No matter which fabric you choose, make sure it’s 100% cotton or soft enough for cuddling if the bunny is meant for little hands. Mixing different textures can also give your bunny a fun and unique look!
And– we made these up using orphan quilt blocks as well. Super cute and a great way to get those lost blocks into a finished project. Check out the tutorial here.
Care Instructions
- Spot Clean When Possible – Use a damp cloth with mild soap to clean small stains. Avoid soaking the fabric.
- Hand Wash if Needed – If the bunny needs a deeper clean, gently hand wash it in cold water and mild detergent. Rinse well and press out excess water with a towel.
- Air Dry Only – Lay flat or hang to dry. Avoid using the dryer, as the heat can change the shape and texture of the stuffing.
- Fluff as Needed – After drying, gently reshape the bunny and fluff the stuffing to keep it looking its best.
For decorative or keepsake bunnies, keeping them dust-free with a light brush or lint roller is usually enough!
