Let’s talk today about what fabrics you’ll need for the Walkabout QAL.
This quilt can be sewn using your favorite scraps or fabric line. Plus, you’ll be using quite a bit of background fabric. You can choose if you go scrappy with this as well or just use one fabric.
DATES:
- April 17th start date!
Walkabout Quilt Along
58″ x 61″
Fabric Requirements:
Tree: ½ yard
Flowers: ½ yard (includes petals, stems, leaves)
Traditional Quilt Blocks: ½ yard
House Blocks: 1 yard
Background: 3 yards
You’ll notice that the materials list is based on the pieces / quilt blocks that you are going to sew.
So the tree also includes the tree trunk. And the flower includes the petals, stems and leaves. Just so you know.
You’ll also have another page for tracking your progress. Both with the quilt blocks – there are check mark boxes for each block that you’ll need. They are different widths, but nothing is above 8 inches.
To the side of that, you’ll find a flying geese daily movement tracking area. Just remember that there is really no rule to this. You can choose what ‘movement’ is good for you. A walk around the block, 10 times on the stairs, 30 minutes on your treadmill, going to the gym. Whatever you do – it is fine.
Just be consistent with this. There is a total of 35 flying geese – so you have an opportunity to move for 35 days consistently.
Lastly, you’ll see a coloring page giving you an opportunity to play with your own colors and such.

this is a great idea. I have signed up. I have always liked the house block. I hope I can keep up. I have a sore ankle but I know to be kind to myself. My Summer will be spent in a cast so I will have plenty of time to play catch then.

Thank you! Glad you will be joining us! House blocks are so cute. Love the idea of fussy cut windows. Excited to see how everyone’s quilts come together. Totally be kind to yourself. Don’t over do it. This is about you moving more than your usual. So really, anything goes! no fun for the cast, hope all goes well.

I just retired – today is my last day of work and I have friends who are worried I won’t be busy “enough.” Well I’m signing up, too, and I know just who I want the quilt to go to and am looking forward to the additional exercise. I am a confident beginner/barely intermediate.

I hope to keep up with this one. I have finally finished all the blocks for last years Dutch Garden and now all I have to do is assemble it. As you know last year was horrible for me medically and I not only got behind in everything I just lost my want to create. I am just now getting my strength back and feel like going to my Haven(sewing room).

So. . .a question. I have, like 6 quilts going. I really can’t afford emotionally to start another one. What if I sewed on one of those blocks and joined all y’alls flying geese? Can I do that?? I would LOVE to have accountability for movement.

Sounds fun! Off to Paduca at the end of April with friends, but should be easy to catch up & certainly will be doing the walking!

This is just what I need! I’ve been trying to sign up for the daily emails but I don’t get the confirmation email and pdf for supplies, etc.
