Each month we meet up with a variety of quilt and fabric designers, new book authors, notion developers and more! It’s fun to get to know them a little bit better. Let me introduce you to Lou Orth of Lou Orth Designs.

How did you get your start in sewing?
My mother in law taught me how to sew on her old Husqvarna. I made a simple fold over envelope cushion and never looked back.
Where do you find inspiration?
I love spending time playing around designing quilts. I keep tweeking/refining until i get something that feels right.
Do you have a favorite or a few favorite notions? What are they?
I love my 12″ x 6″ Olfa ruler. It’s not fancy but it’s great quality and I can use it for 90% of my cutting requirements. Also a Hera marker is great for marking out quilting lines!
Tell us about the project your currently working on.
I am currently working on a scrappy happy quilt. It’s a new design and I have designed it with the QuiltCon scrappy challenge in mind.
Have anything fun coming up or just happening that you’d like to share?
I’ve just released my Celestial Quilt as a stand alone course, along side my FPP masterclass course.
What are your favorite parts of quilting?
Fabric pull! I love pulling out fabrics and auditioning them for a quilt.
Give us a quirky fact about yourself 🙂
I have a stork scissors tattoo.
What interests do you pursue when you’re not quilting?
I love reading. It’s great for some downtime after sewing up a storm!
