Block 8 for the Round Robin– Around the Block has been designed by Sherri of A Quilting Life.
Today we are in for a super treat. Sherri’s style is so fun and fresh. Her eye for detail — like points, color, design shows in all of her projects…which is probably why she is published in multiple books and has a few books under her belt.
I was delighted when she said yes to be a designer and am totally excited to share a little bit of her with you. Her block is a very traditional quilt block. The churn dash quilt block allows you to practice perfect piecing without pulling out your hair. {there are a couple of blocks out there that will lead you to the loony house}
Here is Sherri’s block:
Churn Dash Quilt Block
Notice that her ‘background’ fabric is a color. Don’t be afraid to step out like this and have some fun. It will change the whole look of the block. Because of the placement of that fabric the lighter fabric is perfectly placed in between the darker center and the colored background.
Because all the pieces of the block are transferable– except for the center square– you can play around with either the lighter churn dash, or the darker one. You might surprise yourself with what you end up liking the most!
What Sherri says about her block:
I really can’t pick a favorite block, but this is one I’ve always loved because of the variety of combinations possible and because there are so many fun ways to set this in a quilt! It’s also a great block to make scrappy!
This is part of the Round Robin Quilt Along Series-– for previous blocks and for theschedule of designers.clickety click here.

Get to know Sherri a little better:
I’m a wife, mom to four, college English instructor, and I love quilts. My Mom gave me a sewing machine when I was 10, and I’ve been sewing ever since. I began my creative journey by primarily sewing clothing, making many of my own clothes during high school.
I kept sewing during college, eventually making prom and wedding attire for others.
Inspired and taught by my grandmother, my quilting journey really began in the early 1990’s after making a quilt for my oldest son.
After starting a blog to document my creative process I became interested in designing and have since been published in magazines, collaborative books, and two books of my own: A Quilting Life: Creating a Handmade Home was published in March 2013, and my second book, Fresh Family Traditions: 18 Heirloom Quilts for a New Generation was released in March 2014.
I continue to blog about my quilting life at www.aquiltinglife.com!
