There are only two blocks in the quilt – the sawtooth star with a pinwheel in the center and a butterfly block.
While the star has points that you need to deal with, they don’t line up with any points of the butterfly – so it will give you a break on perfection!
There are a lot of half square triangles left after you sew up your blocks – the butterfly blocks.
Feel free to sew those together to make a mini quilt or something else just as fun.
I kept the blocks somewhat planned out – the center pinwheel was one fabric, the points for the star were one fabric, the pinwheel backgrounds were another fabric.
You’ll also notice that the wings on the butterfly don’t match either. The first block I sewed they were matching and I really liked how the scrappy looks – so I went with mixing them up instead of having them matchy matchy.
It’s up to you and what you like though, so have some fun and try out a few layouts before stitching them together.

Finishing the Quilt
1. Cut or piece together your batting and a piece of quilt backing fabric.
2. Make a quilt sandwich with the backing, batting, and top.
3. Baste together with fusible batting, pins or basting spray.
3. Quilt as desired. A few of my favorite ways to quilt are Straight line quilting or cross hatch quilting. Use a walking foot on your sewing machine. Trim away the extra batting and backing.
4. Cut strips of fabric for the binding. Cut 2 1/2” tall (sometimes I use 2 1/4″) binding strips. Sew the binding strips together and bind using your favorite technique.
