Ever start the year with a giant list of quilts you’re totally going to finish… only to blink and it’s October and you’re wondering where the time (and half your projects) went?
Yep. Same here.
That’s why around here we’ve ditched the idea of having one big overwhelming list and instead, we’ve built a better way to actually follow through—step-by-step—with the Patchwork Planner and our 90 Sews program inside Patchworkers Plus.
You don’t need to be more productive. You just need a plan that works the way you work—and maybe a few quilting buddies cheering you on.

Why Traditional Goal Setting Doesn’t Work for Quilters
We love our projects. But we also love new ideas, fabric sales, and chasing inspiration like a squirrel in a fat quarter shop.
That’s normal. And honestly? That’s the fun part. But without a little structure, our UFO pile gets out of hand and we end up with more guilt than quilts.
So instead of writing down 37 projects and crossing your fingers… let’s break it down into something that’s actually doable.
Step 1: Start With the Mega List
Inside the Quilter’s Command Center, you’ll find a printable where you can brain dump everything you want to make—projects in progress, ideas from last year, gifts you need to sew, quilt-alongs you said yes to, and random scraps you swore would turn into something.
This is your starting point—not a to-do list, just a snapshot. A judgement-free zone. Your Stash Mountain of ideas.

Step 2: Pick One Season at a Time
Instead of stressing about the whole year, we focus on 90-day sewing seasons inside 90 Sews. That’s three months of realistic goals—not fantasy quilts, but stuff you can actually finish.
Three months of sewing and making progress. One month at the end to ‘pick up and catch up’. Which is super helpful!
You’ll pick 1–3 projects from your Mega List to work on. Just enough to make progress, not so much that you get overwhelmed and ghost your sewing machine.
This is where the magic starts.

Step 3: Break It Down Into Tiny Wins
Each project gets broken down into small, doable steps. Think: pull fabric, cut pieces, sew blocks, assemble rows, add borders, quilt it, bind it.
We do this together inside 90 Sews with weekly planning prompts, project check-ins, and encouragement from your fellow quilters. You’ll start to see your progress week by week—no more spinning your wheels.
Even if you only get 20 minutes at a time, you’ll know what to do next.

Step 4: Use Your Tools (and Your People)
This is where the 90 Sews really shines. You’ll keep track of your projects, next steps, ideas, notes from classes, BOMs, and more—all in one place.
And inside Patchworkers Plus, you’re not doing this alone. We’ve got monthly planning nights, virtual sew days, progress check-ins, and real-life quilters who get what it’s like to hit a wall mid-project.
We share wins, cheer each other on, and yes—remind you to finally sew those borders.
Step 5: Check In, Adjust, and Celebrate
At the end of each 90-day cycle, we reflect on what we finished (ta-da!), what’s still in progress, and what’s next. Maybe a project rolls over. Maybe you surprise yourself and finish four.
We always celebrate the wins, no matter how big or small. Because quilting isn’t a race—it’s a process. And you’re learning, finishing, and moving forward.
Even before the end of the cycle – we get together monthly for Show & Tell. We talk about all the quilting things and share everything that’s happening in our sewing room.
A Few Extra Tips to Keep Going:
- Make it visual: post your plan on a bulletin board or use sticky notes you can move around
- Prep your space: clear your cutting table so it’s ready when you are
- Track your ta-das: celebrate what you finish with a tracker or project log
- Don’t go it alone: progress is easier (and more fun) with quilting friends
- Make time for it: block out a little sewing time on your calendar—protect it like a dentist appointment
You Don’t Need More Motivation. You Just Need a Plan.
Quilting is supposed to be fun—not stressful. With the right tools, a little structure, and a whole lot of encouragement, you really can finish what you start.
