If you love quilting, chances are you’ve heard about quilt guilds.
Guilds have long been a place where quilters gather to share ideas, learn new techniques, show off finished projects, and connect with others who enjoy working with fabric and thread just as much as they do.
For many quilters, joining a guild can be a great way to stay inspired, learn new skills, and make friendships with people who understand the excitement of a new quilt project.
But finding the right guild — or even finding one at all — isn’t always easy.
Let’s talk about a few ways to find quilt guilds near you, and what to do if there isn’t one nearby.

Start with a Simple Online Search
One of the easiest ways to find a quilt guild is simply by searching online.
Try typing something like:
- quilt guild near me
- quilting guild in [your city or state]
Many guilds have websites or Facebook pages where they share meeting times, upcoming speakers, and membership details. Even smaller guilds often have a social media page that lists when and where they meet.
A quick search can often reveal groups you didn’t realize existed in your area.

What If There Isn’t a Quilt Guild Near You?
Sometimes the biggest challenge is simply location.
Not every town has an active guild, and even if there is one nearby, the meeting time might not fit your schedule. Evening meetings, travel distance, or busy calendars can make it difficult to attend regularly.
That’s one of the reasons many quilters are turning to online quilting groups.
An online group gives you the same sense of community and encouragement, but without needing to drive across town or rearrange your schedule.
You can participate when it works for you — whether that’s early in the morning, during a lunch break, or late at night when the house is quiet and the sewing machine is humming.
A Quilt Guild You Can Join from Home
If the idea of connecting with other quilters sounds appealing, but local guilds aren’t an option, that’s exactly why I created Patchworkers Plus.
It’s an online quilting group where quilters from all over come together to sew, share projects, and encourage each other.
Inside the community, members can:
- Share what they’re working on
- Join in on sewing challenges and projects
- Attend virtual workshops and sewing days
- See what other quilters are creating
- Stay motivated to finish quilts that might otherwise sit unfinished
In many ways, it feels a lot like a quilt guild — just without the travel time.
Quilting Is Better Together
Quilting may start as a solo hobby, but it becomes even more enjoyable when you share it with others.
Whether you find a local quilt guild, connect with a small sewing group, or join an online community, being around other quilters can bring new inspiration and encouragement to your projects.
And sometimes all it takes is seeing someone else’s quilt to spark the idea for your next one.

Online Quilt Guild~
What if you work or have a fairly busy schedule with family, work, etc. Then what?
The online quilt guild is a great option. Open 24 hours all year long, they are an open membership group (you can join any time during the year and still have full access). You can drop in anytime. Meet others from around the world– and the projects are all exclusive to the group. Plus, there are monthly guest designers. You’ll get to learn a little bit about them and sew a pattern they have designed, just for the group.
What kind of activities will you find in quilt groups near you – Block of the months, quilt alongs, guest speakers (either local or from out of town), retreats, swaps, charity efforts and more.
I’ve been involved in quite a few and am just rediscovering new ones since moving.
The beauty of having an online quilt group is that it’s there no matter where you are. No matter your schedule or time- it’s online and virtual so it’s everywhere you have access.
Having a quilt group near you and participating in a quilt group is a great way to expand your friendship and knowledge in quilting. Many techniques and patterns I would have never tried or think to try without the support of a group as well as the inspiration to try.
You are going to love exploring and finding your own quilt group, guild or club- and I encourage you to check out my online quilting group as well here.
Ask at Local Quilt Shops
Local quilt shops are often closely connected with nearby guilds and quilting groups.
Shop owners usually know which guilds meet locally, and some even host guild meetings, classes, or special events themselves. If you visit a quilt shop, take a moment to ask if they know of any guilds that meet nearby.
You may also see flyers or bulletin board postings with information about local quilting groups.
Look on Social Media
Many quilt guilds now share their activities through Facebook groups or pages.
Searching Facebook for terms like quilt guild + your city can sometimes lead you to local groups that may not have a formal website. These groups often share meeting schedules, photos from recent projects, and announcements about events or quilt shows.
It’s a simple way to see what guild activity looks like before attending a meeting.
