The weather outside is getting warmer! I love Spring. I am hoping that a few days we will go on a picnic with an outdoor blanket. The kids love it. I can bring a great book, the kindle or a pillow for a little napsie.
If you are able to gather up a few {ok– a lot} of quilt blocks this quilt is a great idea on using your UFO Quilt blocks for an outdoor blanket.
UFO blocks are usually random around here…..but there are a few that I have a nice little collection of the same size blocks. And, seriously who wants to use thier best fabric on something that will be slobbered and stained! {either with grass or food}. I say put together blocks that are the same size– or give them some borders to make them the same size and sew them into the best Usable Outdoor blanket around!
If you don't have enough Quilt blocks in your personal collection- you could ask for donations, or you could even mix in a full block of fabric– not pieced. A large piece of eye spy fabric {the fabric that has super fun kiddo prints} would make the quilt perfect for the outdoors.
Notice that the back is a very large of nice fabric– I am all for cheap around here, so I would use a cute vintage sheet or another piece of something large that just doesn't cut it for any other quilt {I have half a bot of this paper clip fabric–what? who buys that? me? why?}
Outdoor blanket for picnics
Maureen from Creative Journal shares this tutorial with Riley Blake.
She even did a bit of tying for those who are hesitant in quilting this big outdoor blanket!
Notice that it does not have batting in there. It is a lot easier to store, pack into your car and wash when it's like this. The batting will make it super heavy and you aren't out to warm the grass- so skip it.
