Today we have Heather from The Sewing Loft with us! She is the guest designer for the Quilt Group.
She and I met quite a few years back and have been friends since the day we met! We hit it off right away and I love it when I find someone who has the same interests- sewing and designing!
We travel together to quilt market– it’s such a delight. We bounce ideas off of each other, chat on the phone and if we could we’d sew together!
Here is a bit more about Heather – Enjoy!
How did you get your start?
I come from a long line of stitchers. As a young child, I would spend time with Grandmother watching her sew and shift through her reclaimed cookie tim of buttons. I used to love sorting them into piles and try to find just one special button.
Fast forward to my teenage years and sewing became my personal passion. It was a way for me to express myself. I had more of a “rocker edge” and off the rack clothing just didn’t do the trick. So, I started designing and making my own clothes.
That spark has stayed with me all these years.
What inspires you?
The texture and colors of nature.
Do you have a favorite notion?
Notions, tools & gadgets are all things that can help make us look like rock stars! That said, it is hard to say there is just one special item that stands out.
I will say that I have a funky tape measure that was a gift from overseas. For some reason, it just makes me smile.
What’s coming up for you that you are excited to share?
2015 is coming to a close and I’ve started to shift my sites straight ahead towards 2016. That means, more scrappy projects and specialty pieces for my closet are on the way. Heck, I’ll even be hosting a Block of the Month with Fairfield World. Between these projects and n class teaching, I’m sure 2016 is going to be fun.
I’d love love to invite you to sew along with me so, be sure to keep your eyes peeled on my blog for more details.
Something fun about yourself~
I like to keep things simple – think tee shirts and jeans. But once the cold weather kicks in, I can be found wearing crazy mis matched socks that are cozy!
Tell us about your project you are doing for the quilt group-
This table runner is designed to help you celebrate the holiday season in style. Think cookies with Santa, dinner with friends, candy houses
If your fabric selection is colorful, consider layering it over a simple table covering to create a focal point.
