I’m so excited to introduce you to Kari- we haven’t met in person before….there is still time for that! but I love her designs and was delighted when she accepted to come along and be a guest designer for the IAQ.
Not only does she have quilt patterns, but she has her own notions and products as well. She is a busy gal!
Her timeless designs are great for any level of quilter. In addition to her pattern she has a video to keep you up to speed on how to use her templates!
A little bit about Kari-
From book author & quilt instructor to pattern & notion developer, Kari’s passion for quilting is obvious. Some of the most well-written patterns have come from New Leaf Stitches, along with her patented, innovative notion, Clearly Perfect Angles. Her latest venture is as a fabric designer for Hoffman California Fabrics. Kari is a 2016 Aurifil Designer and also a Creative Grids Ruler designer. Her patterns, books and notions can be found in quilt stores around the world. Her work can also be found in many leading quilt magazines including covers in the US and France.
Kari is pleased to have been a host on PBS television’s Love of Quilting, nominated as “Best Teacher/Instructor”, “Best Quilt Book Author” and is proud to be a BERNINA Ambassador.
As a recycled Home-Ec teacher, she still finds teaching exciting. Only now, Kari gets to teach quilters from all over the nation.
Kari and her husband, Brian, have lived in the beautiful Minnesota lakes country their entire lives. They are now enjoying their grown sons’ families, including five granddaughters. Follow Kari on her blog and social media as she shares the many blessings in her life.

Here’s a quick look at what she designed for members–
About the project for the quilt group:
Jumping Off Point” is a little table topper with a fun center block. I think sometimes we look at a design and see it only one way. With this project I hope to encourage you to take this center block and create something uniquely yours. You will see that I have given you some ideas, but let those creative juices flow!

How did you get your start in sewing?
I was fortunate to have a very creative mom, who also happened to be a Home Ec. teacher. I have been sewing and crafting since I was a very little girl (which is a long time ago!).
What inspires you?
My inspiration comes from my family and faith. Along with these, on the creative side I love nature and color.
Do you have a favorite notion?
At the risk of sounding self-promoting, I have to say my two notions. I was inspired by a need and the practicality of both. I hated drawing lines for sewing half-square triangles, so I developed the Clearly Perfect Angles. And in my need to sew with accurate pieces I developed the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers. You are actually the first to hear about them, they are that new! Basically you can square a hst AND clip the dog ears with only one alignment, no turning the fabric and realigning a ruler.
Quirky Fun little thing about yourself:
I married my high-school sweetheart and we raised two boys….now to be grandparents of 5 grand-daughters!
What’s coming up that we can look forward to?
I’ve had such a fun, unique year. I’m honored to be one of the 2016 Aurifil Designers, a designer with The Splendid Sampler, am working on my first fabric line with Hoffmann California Fabrics and now launching my newest notion. Of course, there is the traveling and teaching I so love.
