Learn how to make scrappy fabric pulls feel intentional instead of overwhelming. If you’ve ever loved the idea of a scrappy quilt but stalled out because the fabric choices felt chaotic—or you didn’t want that full “fabric explosion” look—you’re not alone. I hear this all the time from quilters who want scrappy and coordinated.
In this guest workshop, Monika from Penny Spool Quilts shares a simple, practical approach to planning scrappy fabric pulls that actually work.
She walks through how to narrow choices, build a cohesive color story, and use the scraps you already have—without overthinking every decision.
It’s a calm, confidence-building way to plan scrappy quilts so you can move from pulling fabric to sewing with a clear plan in place.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Monika, the designer and teacher behind Penny Spool Quilts, based in Ottawa, Canada.
If you love bright designs and modern quilts, you’ve come to the right place! I’ll help you find modern quilt inspiration, tutorials, and fuss-free quilt patterns to build your quilting confidence, one (paper) piece at a time, no matter where you are in your quilting journey.
My own quilting journey started a bit over 20 years ago, when I was at university in Switzerland, with traditional patterns done the traditional way. And while I call myself a modern quilter now, I still take inspiration from traditional blocks and designs and tweak them to suit my taste for modern fabrics, colours, and bold shapes.
PSQ patterns are fun and bright, sometimes minimalist, often fairly quick quilts, and always with a nod to tradition.
