Once you’ve made three of these pumpkins, you can turn them into a delightful table runner. Enjoy the fun and festivities with our free pumpkin quilt block pattern.
This traditional patchwork design is perfect for beginners and uses supplies you probably already have in your stash.
You’ll need an off-white fabric for the background and some orange or fall-colored fabric for the pumpkin itself.
No fancy techniques or notions are required—just basic piecing!

Grab your supplies, and let’s get started!
Materials Needed:
- Cut 2 – 3″ x 3 1/2″ background
- Cut 4 – 2″ x 2″ background
- Cut 1 – 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ background
- Cut 1- 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ stem fabric
- Cut 1- 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ pumpkin fabric
1- Draw a line on the wrong side of each background square from corner to corner with a pencil
2- Place right sides together the small background square and the stem of the pumpkin. You can decide how the diagonal line is placed
3- Sew on the drawn line and cut 1/4″ past the sewn line
4- Press the background back and trim up block if needed
5- Place a background square in one corner, lining up the sides
6- Pin to secure
7- Repeat with other corner
8- Repeat with all four corners
9- Sew on the drawn line
10- Cut 1/4″ past the sewn line
11- Press corners flat
12- Place the stem in between the background pieces
13- Stitch them together
14- Pin the top stem piece to the bottom pumpkin piece and sew
15- Press the pumpkin block and trim if needed
