Diamond quilts are really not that hard to do after you wrap your head around the process and the layout.

These are really quite perfect for a super scrappy look and scrap quilt. You can mix and match a lot of different prints, styles and designs – but with the diamond shape, you’ll have something cohesive and cute.
If you love the process of digging through your stash, cutting your diamond pieces and sewing diamond patterns – you can decide how large of a quilt to make. It’s super easy to expand to lap quilts or larger quilt top.
Hints for making a diamond quilt
- Watch your seam allowance – this is big when you are cutting and sewing different shapes together. Not paying attention to this can cause a lot of frustration when putting the quilt top together. Do a check every once in a while to make sure you are still on track.
- Don’t pull the fabric. Diamond shapes when cut are on the bias. They can easily get out of shape and cause some problems when you are sewing them together. When you press your pieces, don’t pull them. When you are sewing your pieces, don’t pull them. Basically don’t pull your fabric. Use pins to keep things lined up right and to make sure it’s all good.
- Block size doesn’t really matter here. Using your ruler or template will keep your block size to the correct size it should be. Follow the instructions on the pattern. Diamonds are a bit weird in that they are pieced in a different manner, so squaring up looks a bit different here.
- Use your stash! These are perfect for scraps, fat quarters, and really as long as your template fits the piece of fabric – any size of fabric will work well.
- No experience needed. Good news. You can have any quilting skill level here. Step-by-step instructions walk you through the process – follow them and your blocks will be wonderful!
