This month we’re making something you can sew in about 30 minutes and then use over and over again.
These Reusable Gift Bags are simple drawstring-style bags with a lining, ribbon closure, and three different sizes to choose from. They’re perfect for the holidays coming up, but don’t pack this pattern away with the Christmas decorations. You’ll be able to use these for birthdays, showers, little thank-you gifts, and all kinds of celebrations throughout the year.
Plus… they’re a really good excuse to dig into the scrap bin.
Pick the size you need, grab some fabric and ribbon, and you can have a gift bag ready before you’d make it through the checkout line at the store.

What Makes These Gift Bags So Handy
Each bag is fully lined, which gives it a nice finished look and also makes it somewhat reversible.
You can keep it simple and choose two coordinating fabrics—or have a little more fun with it.
Make the outside Christmas fabric and the lining birthday fabric.
After Christmas, flip the whole thing around and now you’ve got a birthday bag ready for the next gift.
That’s my kind of reusable.
The top cinches closed with ribbon, so this is another chance to use some of those ribbon scraps you’ve been hanging onto. Mix and match what you already have. There’s no reason these all need to look the same.
And with three sizes included, you can choose the one that works for what you’re giving—or make a little stack and have them ready when you need them.
Pattern & Video Tutorial
Your printable PDF pattern and step-by-step video tutorial are both included right here inside Patchworkers Plus.
The pattern includes instructions for all three sizes, and the video will walk you through sewing the lining, putting the bag together, adding the ribbon, and finishing everything up.
Pick your size and sew along with me at your own pace.

Skill Level & Construction Notes
This is a beginner-friendly project and a quick one.
Once you’ve made your first bag and see how everything goes together, the next one will be even faster. This is a great project for assembly-line sewing if you’d like to make several for your holiday gifts.
Cut a few.
Sew a few.
Thread the ribbons.
Done.
You can easily finish one in around 30 minutes, making this a perfect afternoon project—or something you can squeeze in when you only have a little sewing time.
Perfect For…
- Christmas and holiday gifts
- Birthdays and other celebrations
- Using leftover fabric from your stash
- Using those ribbon scraps you’ve been saving
- Quick last-minute gift wrapping
- Making several at once
- Adding something handmade to a gift without making the actual gift
And possibly my favorite part—no pile of wrapping paper to throw away afterward.
These bags are meant to be used, passed along, flipped inside out, filled again, and enjoyed for another celebration.
Make one or make a whole stack. With three sizes to choose from, you’ll probably find yourself reaching for this pattern whenever you have something to wrap.
And when you’ve sewn yours, share them with us inside the community. I’d especially love to see if you try the two-in-one idea with holiday fabric on one side and an everyday print on the other.
