Last year was the year we went over a bunch of How to Quilt Tutorials. There were soooo many different topics covered. You will have to take a look yourself at them all. They covered applique, embroidery, quilt as you go, how to’s for fabric, thread, cutting, and more.
All of this information is great– perfect for beginners or advanced (great reminder) but really sewing is the only way that you really get to practice the steps and put them to use. This quilt that we will be sewing couldn’t be any simpler.
It’s the beginning of the year and I though that starting off at the very beginning with a super simple baby sized quilt would be a perfect way to introduce you to the world of quilts.
Starting today with the materials list we will be starting a week long little quilt along. This is a great way to learn how to make a quilt. Nothing that you can’t handle.
Let’s start today with-
Quilting Supplies– these are my favorites and I use them with every project.
Fabric Quality- nothings worse than finishing a quilt and then not having it last more than a few washes.
Squares: 30 — 5″ X 5″ squares
Sashing: 2– 2 1/2″ X 23″
Borders: 2– 2 1/2″ X 23″ and 5″ X 35″ (these were the same as the sashing, but for your quilt you can choose to do different fabric)
For this little quilt along we will be covering- piecing the quilt, machine quilting (yes, you can totally do it with your home machine!), binding. From the beginning to the end you will be shown how to make a quilt.
Gather up your supplies and we’ll see you tomorrow with the piecing instructions.
If you’d like– share your progress in the photo gallery. Can’t wait to see!
