Round Robin Row Quilt Row 2 with Caron

Today we get to see the next row for the row quilt! yay!

Caron Carlson is the designer….weeee she is the greatest!

She has a quilting business {as you can see already} and is really talented!

We are on a Watermelon theme!! I love it when great design alike.

She has a wonderful method for sewing up those watermelonds slices!!! I wish i had thought of it! Super easy, no template…but you do get to use a drawing compass. Smart girl Caron! I love it.

Again the sides are easy to adjust– just in case….and the ends have a strip so the bias is hidden inside and it won't stretch. perfect addition.

I think i missed the start date– which is the 13th of January. I sure wish i'd set alarms on my phone or something. You think that at the beginning of the year I'd be a little more on top of time!

This free pattern for the Round Robin has been designed by- me! lucky for me before all the good ideas were taken for designs. lol

There is a big monster watermelon surrounded by picnic style patches + to keep things easy for everyone a spacer on one side. This can be adjusted later if needed.

If you'd like you can join the group —totally free and easy to do– -post your photos in the gallery for all to see + make a few new friends who are sewing along with it. If you join the group- you will recieve email reminders when the new row is posted. {and it will be on time}

Designers:

Your row should be 56" wide X whatever size you want!!! That means you can do a skinnier row with applique, or small pieced blocks or tall skinny big blocks. Please try to keep you row no taller than 8".

Keep your row pattern to the theme— Summer Picnic— need some ideas? How about fruit appliques, baskets, stars, ants, birds, picnic-y fun stuff….. so really whatever! This is your time to shine and share your wonderful talent with the rest of us!

Round Robin #3 Row Quilt Finishing Up

All good things must come to an end. I really have enjoyed this quilt– just like the other ones. And the designers have come up with som super cute rows!

I appologize for having issues with the dates {seems this should have been up on the 22nd- where is my brain?} and sending out reminders, and you running over to see something new and the screen is blank. I have turned that off– not the brain, just the emails. and hopefully my act is together and they will actually co-ordinate together the info.

For finishing up, it really is simple. Please don't over-think this process. To break it down- you find the longest row and then use that measurement for all the other rows. Not too terrible. {it's not}

There was only one row that I actually removed something and that was the longest row of flying geese! Because all the other rows were relitively close in size they were very easy to add too.

I added a stop border and then did a scrappy pieced border on the outside. Not too extroindary, but it works for the quilt. If you have any other ideas and want to do something totally different- hey. Go for it.

I did make one mistake on adding with the applique flowers. I put one piece on either side, when I should have added the spacer to one side and then sewn another flower on! Oh, how hindsight is better. lol I have a few quilts for someone to get done and then this goes on! I am excited to see what comes of the quilting.

Round Robin Row Quilt Border Row 8 with Patchwork Posse

Ok….. this quilt is turning out totally wonderful!!! I am sooo excited to share what I came up with for this row. And, for some reason we skipped a pattern. Did anyone else notice that? The patterns are usually going out every other monday…but there was a jump in dates. Sometimes I totally wonder where my brain is! I know, it's behind my eyes…..but clearly it wasn't on while looking at calendar dates. Enough about the brain….let's get on with the totally cute row!

May Baskets

What do you think? love it like i do? oh yeah! The handles haven't been totally attached– so they are still a bit floppy.

The May basket pattern is quite easy and you get a 2 fer! So, piecing is relitivly quick. Give it a try–

and can I tell you a secret? I finished the center of the top!eeep. i know.

All of you who are a little hesitant of sewing with us because you don't trust the rows— let me tell you. No. Let me show you it always works out wonderfullly!

now, before all you smart girls point it out– yes, I changed the 'row' from horizontal to vertical. It was wider than longer so it works out better this way. And, yes, as you can see {because you are smart like that} I sneaked in an extra row– but it really wasn't It was the little triangles left from the Zig-zag row! I love extra goodies like that! All I did was sew a second line and cut in the middle….one 1/2 triangle. one zig. Repeat for other side.

I also decided NOT to add a sashing in between each row. It is quite busy, but I sort of like it….so there. I will be adding I think- a red stop border and then an outer bigger border. You will find out on Sept. 22nd what it looks like.

Now for winners!! So– who is the winner of the Workshop this month? well– there wasn't any new photos!!! How can there be sooo many of us sewing along and noone posting any new photos?

I will hold onto this free workshop until next time and double it!! So– 2 free workshops {you choose the workshop}— but there has to be new photos!! Come on girls. Sew it up.

Now that you are seeing part of the finished quilt top are you ready to catch up? I took saturday and few hours and look at what I got done-

{i know the door is sideways– didn't have time to change that. sorry}

Today we are on row 6!!! For this row I have come up with –

extra large flying geese

I used the method of the heart shaped flying geese…..starting with a big square and 4 little squares. I promise it works and is a great trick for piecing flying geese quickly!

How about the newest design wall/photo op?

This might be the longest row so far— but it will be super easy to adjust, just snip one off….we'll figure that out when they are all done and ready to be sewn together.

I love the ric-rac look. and I picked up some more background so I can get this one done now! How about you? It is my goal to catch them all up this week!

Round Robin 3 Pinwheel Row with Patchwork Posse

Phewey Magooie girls! I have finally sewn something– the next row for the Round Robin 3

Pinwheel Row

by Patchwork Posse

For this row you will need 2 different colors for the pinwheels and a bit of background. {I am running low on mine— eeep} The blocks are easy to sew together. I did lay each block out and then sew them together one by one. That way i didn't twist the pinwheels or make them go the wrong way.

You will be sewing a total of 7 blocks — they won't be the same length as the other rows. No worries though- when all lthe rows are sewn I will show you how to make them all fit!

Thanks to my helpers holding that row— since i have moved out of my moms and no longer have a design wall. waaaa

Round Robin Row Quilt Row 4 with Joy

Today we are totally lucky to have Joy from Joy's Quilts design row 4 for us!!

Now, she has designed for a round robin before and I am going to spill some beans. is that ok joy? well- i will anyways. I got her row in the email and it looked just like the last pattern she designed. I thought. Ok. This is fine. But……. the flower pot was at the bottom of a vine that ran up and down. Now this is a row quilt– how does that work? I politely emailed her back and said she might have to change a few things, but it could work. Of course she let me know that she had attached the totally wrong pattern! Phewy! So glad her right one works perfectly and that I can share it with the rest of you all!

I love the flowers and she has done it an easy applique method so it will work up totally quickly!

Today we are super lucky to have Carrie from Cricket Studio– She delighted us last Round Robin and she is here again!

Hi there! I’m Carrie Graziano of crickets studio, and I basically love to create and make EVERYTHING! That’s why I opened my studio back in 1993, so I could show others how to do the crazy stuff that I think up! I’m a published author of decorative painting books and magazine articles, and before my kids came along I traveled around the US teaching cool students all about my art. I’m also an avid photographer and scrapbooker, having been in the scrapbooking business now for 10+ years. To “relax” my husband bought me a sewing machine in 1995, and well, I haven’t stopped quilting yet. I did take a short break when my daughter (she is 7) and my son (he just turned 3) were born. I’ve been back for about two years now with needle in hand and ready to go!

My blog is fairly new, and I’m venturing out into the online world of quilt blogging and designing. Although I have taught quilting classes in my studio, “teaching” via a blog is a whole new world for me. Check out my blog for my Tips & Tricks Quilt Along that runs this year. It’s a monthly class where at year-end we’ll have a lovely sampler quilt top, and some new techniques and tips under our belt, too! You may start anytime as we’re taking a slow pace. I hope to have more tutorials and another faster-paced quilt along up soon.

Yup, that's me. Becky. Boss of the Patchwork Posse– the best online sewing workshop site there is! {when it gets going again- today, thanks to you} I have been a sewing maniac for over 10 years and quilting for others for the past year. I am getting a bit cross and grumpy lately because the focus has been on the new home {we are painting this week. eeep} and it has not left me much time for blog reading, designing, sewing, chatting…you name it! Which leads me to tell you I just finished the pattern this morning because I forgot the cable to the camera at the 'other' home. Man, i hate living in 2 homes!

Row #1:

Simple block– Butterflies! I chose some crazy stripe thinking that would be a good body. Re-thinking that, but leaving it.

Each block is 6 1/2 X 6 1/2" and you will be making 9 of them. Not too complicated it sewn as a strip peicing. Quicker than one by one for sure!

After a big hiatus from the last Round Robin– it is time to do another one…don't you think?

This time around we are going to be doing it in a ROW instead of doing it around the center block— how about that?

We will be starting May 30th so we need to get right going on this!! I am totally excited. aren't you?

As usual I will need some help designing this wonderful quilt so here are the dates that are open for YOU to take charge of:

Every two weeks there will be a guest blogger on here introducing herself and her block. At the end, you will have made a fun quilt {size determined by rows added— it's sort of a mystery that way}

Of course, all along the way there will be prizes for those who complete the sides.

There will be a drawing each time row instructions are posted. Anyone who posts a picture of a new side since the last drawing will be entered in the next drawing. The row that you post a picture of doesn't have to be just the previous row. It can be for any of the previous rows that you haven't posted yet.

You don't need to do both dates….just one. Don't want to overwhelm everyone. Here is how it will go— {pretty much the same rules as before. In fact I copy and pasted them. hee hee}

There will be 2 round robins posted each month.
The 2nd and 4rd Monday of the month
Each pattern/post will be for 1 row of the quilt.
Patchwork Round Robin will last for 4 months. Last round robin post will be in September.

– How each round robin will work:

When the 2nd Monday and 4th Monday comes you visit here and find the new post with the new pattern. {I will be the swap boss}
There will be a quick intro to the designer of the sides
You will then add the new border designs to YOUR OWN BLOCK!!! —doesn't this sound nice? You are in charge of your own fabric, colors, and time. weee—
Share the photos in the Round Robin Gallery {this is a bit different from earlier round robins– you will need to register to post your photos- registration is FREE}
There will be a Bi-Monthly Drawing and Winner!! Each time there is a designer/row there will be a drawing.

Do you want to be in charge of a row?
Tell me what month you want and what week {only 1 time is requested, though you could do more if you like}
+ You will provide something for the giveaway and send it to the winner!
Designs can be pieced, paper pieced, embroidery or applique. You will need to provide the templates if those are needed.
Cotton, wool or embroidery will be fine. Just make sure we know what we need in a material list.
The row doesn't need to be sewn to the previous rows.
Rows can be any size up to 8" high. The Width Has to end up at least 52"- 60" {finished size} We will fill in the slack at the end. We don't need to end up with a king size quilt, or do we? no, just kidding.

Designer/Pattern Maker– sign ups will be open until we are full.

Now, before anyone says anything smart like–hey, this isn't really a round robin…no one is working on mine, i work on mine…i say yup. BUT WAIT!!! There are 'others' who are designing what you are putting on your sides…so it will count.

+ I say so.

There will be a list at the end of all those who helped you make your top so you can include them on a label. Does that work? Does that count? Will you still complain, or just go along with my kookie round robin?

Patchwork Round Robin Completed plus a Winner!!

Just wanted to give a quick– HELLO to the newest crafty girls popping in! There were quite a few of you yesterday! Thanks for stopping by and taking a look around. Please feel free to sew along with anything going on here– Sewing with others is always more productive!

Getting on with business. Do you remember this?

For the last Giveaway Carrie has offered up a

Well. I do!! Never fear, I didn't forget. I was just waiting for someone to post a photo.

So, apparently MEZCAT is the only one is sewing land who is — sewing!!

And she loves prizes girls, so as to not dissappoint…she has won another one! WEEHAH!

Yup. That's right, you missed it. All you had to do was post your progress and you didn't. Maybe next time.

And. So, as to not dissappoint all of you who are anxious at getting the complete copy of the Patchwork Round Robin 2 I have put them all together in one pdf file. How about that?! Be aware that each of these borders were made by different people, so the pattern doesn't have a consistant layout….but, it still works! This is actually a great pattern for beginners. The borders are very adjustable and will take in any mistakes, miscalculations or cutting you make! Sometimes that is just nice to know, isn't it?

I seriously love these quilts– they have been such fun to start, design and progress along with you! There will of course be another one starting sometime this year…..in a bit. {still working on that main page for the workshops!} This time though there will be an additional twist. I'm thinking ROWS. How about that?

— how about looking at the 1st Round Robin~ very different from the 2nd. That is what I love. Each has their own little character to them, don't they?

Round Robin Border 8 and Finishing up

So, this Round Robin has been so different from the last one. Don't you think? I sure love it though. All the borders have turned out perfect for the theme 'whimsical' don't you think?

After looking at the heavy sides and a bit lopsided I decided that it needed something elongating! Funny, how that happened?! Well, anyways how about adding some whimsical long stemmed flowers.

Let's talk about the last border shall we? Besides being tall and lengthy it does have a forgiving sashing to help out those that are having some issues with sizes and all. I auditioned some borders after that {3 inch ones} but really came up with blah. So. I didn't do another one. The mega pieced sides might need some stay stitching along the edge to keep it all in tact and not stretch. I am thinking I might just end it here and do a red binding all the way around. Something that will 'stop' it. You might on the other hand find that you like an additional border to 'stop' all the business of it— if that is what you want, then do it! please don't think that just because it wasn't added that you don't do it. Make it your own! I tell you. Don't let us bossy sewing girls tell you what to do.

I know you are all disappointed in that it is not quilted ~ you know I totally would have it done~ but….. my machine isn't set up. So, you will have to just settle for the top. When it is all finished I will of course show it off and give you some quilting hints. Until then…just image some swirls…. echoeing,….all that good stuff.

Let me tell you girls that if you are looking for a basic and pattern for beginners this could be one to start with. All the borders are very forgiving and can be made to fit if you run into issues with measuring things. {you can see it, but I do have a warbely border in there} So have a go if you would like and don't forget to share your photos-– we all would like to see your progress and quilt of course!

I haven't decided what to do next— maybe another round robin {2 a year? is that too much?} or maybe a challenge or some sort. What do you think? Let me know and i'll get right on it. heehee
