Today we are joined by Gail Pan!! yay!! She is a wonderfully talented stitching girl– who just happens to be doing an online workshop…Christmas Joys
oh yeah.
A bit about Gail–
I live in Melbourne, Australia with my hubby and 3 sons.I have been sewing as long as I can remember and have always enjoyed crafts of any kind! I started designing patterns in 2003 after deciding that I needed an income to support my hobby!I love to sew and think I most definately have a fabric addiction. I am inspired by nature, fabric and the things around me. I also love to read and go for long walks among the hills surrounding my home!
Just thought I'd throw in a small interview that was shared in the workshop.
How did you get your start designing and selling your patterns?
I started after being encouraged by some friends. I was always changing patterns and thought I could sell some to buy more fabric! My friend opened a patchwork business and made me write some patterns. She no longer has the business!!
I really love stitcheries and seeing some by US designer Bareroots gave me inspiration!
Bareroots, Blackbird designs, Hatched and Patched (Aussie designer) I love cross stich too!
no, I am sooo addicted to fabric, sigh, there is always another gorgeous range coming out!
Everywhere! I recently drove through a town here in Aus called "flowerdale" and knew I had to make a quilt with that name! Fabric also inpires!
Also– do you have any hints for stitcheries in quilts?
Try to keep the blocks small to medium, if they are too big it is hard to quilt them. I love using one colour too, especially variegated!
Also try to keep your stitches even, and not too big. and remember backstitch means to go back into the hole behind the stitch!
Thanks Gail for sharing a bit of yourself and your talent with the rest of us!
