I think I have Stitchers Elbow~!!!!
I am not sure if you know what stitchers elbow is— let me explain. It is when you have stitched, and then stitched, and then stitched some more…..keeping that elbow bent and never letting it stretch and rest. That my friends is Stitchers elbow! Have you ever suffered from it?
{the only reason I got to stitch for so long is because I went on a quick one day trip with 2 other girls up to Delco Idaho. Driving time was around 3 hours each way. I was a guest speaker! –definitly more on that later}
Have I already told you girls that I love this book? I do!! Seriously. The quilt I chose was the Candy Store. It wan't the largest in the book and it had a bit of stitchery in it. I quickly made up the stitching kit {scissors, thread, needle, batting pieces and already traced patterns} so I could take it around and stitch here and there.
That worked out perfect with the car/travel time!! After all the cute stitcheries were done I put the top together. Girls if you are looking for a pattern for beginners you should totally try this one out. The blocks end up large enough for cuteness, and the triangle method easy. Everything was so on that after I made the 'snowball' block I didn't end up needing to square it up…which usually these always need!
I do have a few suggestions with this pattern:
- READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!! After I had transferred the pattern onto the blocks…gues what… I turned the page. There were 2 more cute bugs on that page that I missed! So I changed a few and stuck them in.
- Stitch it how you want to. I stitched with a full line. The book shows it in a dotted line {running stitch}. I of course didn't realize this until after all my stitching was done…but for everyone else. You have a few choices.
- Keep your colors simple. I found 1 fabric that had all of my colors and then picked the individual ones off of that. {funny how that fabric isn't even on the top now!}
What I found fun about the pattern is that it is a great example of a impromptu quilt. After piecing the stitchery blocks the book says– measure the edges and cut your strips to this size and 1 1/2 inches wide. Usually patterns are bullies { I am totally guilty} and tell you exactly what to cut everything at. What is a bit scary is that you think— how do the outside borders match if you are off? Well, they do. Don't worry about it. So there ya go.
I love this quilt. Can't wait to get it quilted and bound. I love the 3 colors and the stitchery and the size. It really was a great. Quick to piece {1 day- after the stitcheries were done}. I do now have to figure out how to quilt around the little stitcheries. Any suggestions?

I think I would probably outline quilt around each motif and then perhaps some type of all-over in the rest of the white block, not too closely stitched though. Except then the block cries out for SID to define it. Ah well, can't always get away without stitching in the ditch!
