Quilt notes on Judy–Here
Now, let's start with the book shall we?
This one is a goodie girls. There are some great layouts, designs and ideas. This book is packed with them!
Would I recommend this as a pattern for beginners? I am not sure. Make sure you give it a good lookover before purchasing. I'll give you a few hints further down.
Pros– full of pictures. And they are in full color too! I love that in books. I am a looker girls. I look, I like, I make. Me no likie–me no buyie. If you don't like one pattern turn the page. There are almost too many quilts to choose from. Can that be a bad thing? NO! but just a warning. It is eye candy overload. You get 2 designs with EACH strip you make. {you'll understand later} So, basically- you get a quilt you want + a FREE QUILT!! Who doesn't like that? oh, hey i just got the name of the book….quilts on the double. funny.
Cons– It can be a bit confusing. The way it is layed out is a bit challenging for me who likes everything right together. I had to hunt for a bit to find the exact instructions. I am not a patient person girls, I just want to be making it already! They are found in the front of the book because all the patterns use the same method. Which that is totally a pro if you ask me. Then the cutting instructions are further in on page 19. But, seriously once you get it –you get it and then off you go! *I would recommend using sticky notes to mark the pages that you are using. I found myself jumping back and forth and this made the mind a little calmer*
My first project— Ammon's 8th Birthday Quilt.
Using that bundle of fabric my nice mother gave me… and the quilts on the double book, I had him look through and pick out his favorite. He is a yellow man— that is his favorite color— so he picked the pattern.
I had enough yellow in the bundle to make that the focus fabric. So it ended up in the center square and the outside border of the squares. I stuck the blues and other colors in randomly. I also added the sashing with the yellow square to set them off.
The center of the quilt has the 'tops' blocks.
Then I added a stop border to mellow it down a bit, and then the 'tails' blocks were added to the top and bottom to make it a bit bigger.
these have the colored outsides which make it look like a spool block.
this is the same blocks but these have the blue and blue. no colors.
I didn't end up using the 'ends' which are the cut off at the beginning and end of the strips that you make. So, i still have a pile of those. Not sure if I should piece those for the back or what yet.
wait girls– I might put them together for another focus friday–hmmmmm.
** I would love some help on reviews for this book. I am begging…please share your brain and talent with us! have you made a quilt using this book? Contact me with all your great info. Do it– right now!
